In 2023, an artistic revolution began reshaping Cameroon’s creative landscape. Boldly stepping into the future, the French Institute of Cameroon embraced NFT art—a groundbreaking and decidedly modern form of expression. By weaving cryptographic art into its programming, the institution marked a significant milestone.
To support this shift, the IFC organized two dedicated training sessions. These sessions, paired with “Crypto Genesis” residencies, offered artists unique opportunities. Creators could explore the dynamic interplay between technology and art in innovative ways. As a result, these visionary initiatives have set the stage for a transformed artistic scene. This movement paves the way for an exhilarating evolution of Cameroonian art!
Crypto Genèse (Opus I): the start of a new artistic era
The inaugural edition, titled “Opus I,” brought together seven artists passionate about NFT art. With guidance from Ox4rt curators, participants thrived in a highly stimulating environment. Moreover, hands-on workshops and insightful conferences expanded their creative horizons, pushing boundaries further.
Additionally, the French Institute of Cameroon played a pivotal role in the initiative’s success. It provided state-of-the-art facilities and high-quality resources, fostering an ideal space for creation. Furthermore, a meticulous selection process ensured artistic diversity while maintaining exceptional standards in the works produced. As a result, “Opus I” became a landmark achievement for Cameroonian art!

Born in Port-Gentil, Gabon, Boris Nzebo, now based in Douala, Cameroon, transitioned from sign painting to visual arts as a self-taught artist.

His work is deeply rooted in exploring traditional African hairstyles, reflecting on broader themes of urbanism, society, and social inequality. Drawing inspiration from advertising’s visual codes, his pieces carry a familiar yet striking impact. Additionally, his creations probe identity and Douala’s urban environment, a city where crumbling architecture serves as a poignant metaphor for a constantly evolving society.

A Cameroonian visual artist and digital art pioneer in Central Africa, his work blends AR, crypto-art, immersive installations, and public sculptures.
After over a decade as an art director in Chad, he fully transitioned to art in 2020. Despite challenges in gaining local recognition, meeting curator Viviane Maghela led to his first exhibition, Digital Spirit, at the Annie Kadji Gallery. He also trained in crypto-art and NFTs through the Correspondance Crypto Genesis Opus 1 program.

Born on January 6, 1975, in Douala, this Cameroonian photographer studied architecture in France before founding a communication agency.
In 2005, he discovered photography with great enthusiasm, sparking a passion that drove him into the world of advertising photography. Before long, a bold and controversial poster in Libreville brought him into the spotlight, earning him attention for his daring approach. Specializing in fashion and portraiture, he quickly stood out with his distinctive style, landing features on the covers of international magazines.
By 2018, leveraging his experience, he organized his first exhibition, Un-Différence, offering a profound reflection on albinism, a subject close to his heart. In November 2023, his career took another leap when he had the honor of exhibiting at the prestigious Dupon Gallery in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a landmark moment in his artistic journey. During this event, he also discovered NFT art through the training program Correspondance Crypto Genèse Opus 1.

Born in 1982 in Bangangté, this Cameroonian visual artist masterfully explores photography, video, sculpture, and installation art.
Trained at the Mbalmayo Institute of Artistic Training, he specializes in contemporary photography. His work focuses on African social themes. Before gaining recognition, he started in urban music, which undoubtedly shaped his artistic sensitivity. Later, he transitioned to visual arts, finding a form of expression better suited to his vision.
During a residency at Art Bakery in 2013, he discovered video art, a medium that profoundly influenced his journey. His creations quickly garnered attention, enabling him to participate in prestigious international events. Notably, he exhibited at the Dakar Biennale in 2018 and the Bamako Biennale in 2019.

3 - The new wave of artists trained in NFT Art (Opus II)
Because of its success, the French Institute of Cameroon has decided to renew the experience with the second edition of “CryptoGenèse.” This time, eight artists were carefully chosen to take part in this residence. The program has been thoroughly thorough and enriching. This aimed to meet the participants’ expectations and further support them in their artistic journey.
